Before you bathe your pet put cotton balls in their ears.  Also, keep hands over ears when rinsing during the bath to prevent water from getting in.  If your dog swims in the pool, always dry the inside of the ears afterwards.  Excess water in the ears is one of the primary causes of ear infections.
